🌿 River Avon Catchment

Our aim is to improve water quality and help our rivers reach GOOD ecological status by 2027. To achieve this we are documenting a detailed picture of the River Avon Catchment.

This includes:

🌿Vigorous water quality assessment to provide baseline data.

🌿Numerous site visits with local stakeholders to share good practice and inform the catchment plans.

🌿Designing a truly collaborative BLUEprint funding application in 2026.

Like most of our rivers, the River Avon faces pressures from multiple sources. We want to identify where we can facilitate improvements to the water quality and improve water quality. The River Avon catchment offers strong opportunities for rural Nature based Solutions (NbS) interventions and community action to improve water quality.

*Catchments direct rain to rivers and seas - good land stewardship protects water and nature.

Aerial images and videos are being captured and edited for display at the summit on the 4th October.

🧪Field testing of chemical analysis:

Phosphates and Nitrates testing to indicate agricultural runoff or sewage input.

🧫Laboratory Agar Plates and Colony Counting – traditional microbiological method to culture and quantify bacteria (e.g. E. coli, Enterococci).
